New To Dog Training?

Why do you own a dog? It’s probably because they are full of character, fun to be around and make great companions. You probably already think of your dog as being part of the family.

It’s a great feeling to have complete confidence in your dog. Wheather that be in the home, controlling barking or chewing or off the leash. Without this confidence you face a constant barrage of stressful situations, be it pulling the dog away from the door when someone calls for you or panicking as they go running into the distance towards a road…

Your dog is like a child in many ways, it too deserves an education to be the best it can be. Like a child they pick things up quickly and will respect you for it. Fortunately for you, all the education you need is covered on our website!

Dog Training Isn’t Difficult If You Do It The Right Way

Firstly, be considerate. Dog’s by nature have short attention spans so you must train at times that also suit your dog. Like you they would much rather be doing fun things than sitting in a classroom, so remember to keep your training fun for them. Treats work well both as a reward and to keep their attention.

Next, start simple. This may sound obvious but it’s amazing how many owners go straight into more advanced commands then give up. By starting simple both you and your dog will see faster results. You will make your role as ‘master’ clear. From this point your dog will understand it is ‘master’ who gives the commands.

Don’t send mixed messages. Continue to use the same command for consistency and follow up a successful command with a treat. Your dog will enjoy doing things for you firstly due to the treats but shortly after because of the positive attention and respect between you both.

Be the master but don’t crack the whip! Your dog still needs you to be loving and gentle for your relationship to work. You must be firm but you must also give lots of love when credit is due.
